Q. If I have a topic to suggest for Top 5, what should I do?

Seek professional help. Or eMail it to Dave at the official show eMail address which he may even read before the end of the year.

Q. Why do all serial killers and mass murders have three names?

I have three names, Greg. Can I be a serial killer? (real answer, because psychiatrists need to make money from poorly conceived hypotheses too...)

Q. What can you tell me about John Considine?

Very little, really. John is a man of epicurean delights who enjoys all of life including the parts where spiders fall from the ceiling into his mouth while he is sleeping. Actually there is very little that ever upsets John, except for racist assh**les and people who want to "help" the show but tell him that they "don't want to go on the air." John is a long time DJ for B929 and an accomplished newsman for KFIV and has a fetish for cupcakes.

Q. Is Victor from Modesto a real person?

Yes. Dave! has met him on several occasions and can attest that he is in fact, 100% what he sounds like on the phone. On the other hand Victor must appeal to somebody, like Scott Peterson...

Q. How long was Dave! in the Navy? On a Submarine? Underwater? Exposed to Nuclear Radiation?

11 years, he got out in June of 1991 to go to Seminary, which he says is the second worst mistake he ever made. He was assigned to USS Michigan SSBN-727 from 1983 to 1988 and the longest he was actually underwater was 81 days. His lifetime exposure to radiation is 63 millirem, primarily from nuclear weapons which he can neither confirm nor deny were aboard said ship.

Q. What does the Latin phrase, “A Loqui Cognitio,” mean in English?

From talk, knowledge

Q. Does Dave! have a 'personal' blog or page where I can get to know him better outside the show?

Yes, you can read Dave's blog "And DeForest Kelly as Dr. McCoy," here or follow him on Facebook...

Q. On a serious note, if I would like to be a guest on Afternoons Live, what do I need to do?

Let me be clear upfront here, Dave! hates guests. Mostly because they are usually boring and almost never have anything more to say than one or two points that they think are blindingly and amazingly new, but never are. So, having said that, first, have something to say. Second, make sure that it is interesting, try it out on your friends first, see if they think that it matters to anybody other than yourself. If it does, then send an eMail to the official show eMail address and let Dave! know that you are ready to show your stuff to the world. After a week, resend the eMail because Dave! probably deleted it because, as we said already, he hates guests. You could try calling the station and asking for Dave!, but the truth is that (a) the phone in his office is disconnected so that it won't ring and (b) he never checks his voice mail. So really the best way to become a guest on Afternoons Live is to convince somebody else to convince Dave! that he NEEDS to have you on the show. Make it seem like it's his idea that he wants you and it will go a lot smoother. Trust me on this...

Q: What are the Banned topics on Wide Open Wednesday?

Currently there are no banned topics. However, this can change at a moments notice. Tune in to find out...

Q: Why does "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by the Tokens play at the end of every show?

It is a tribute to a friend of Dave's who died in 1991. Grish was one of Dave!'s good friends and indeed a major influence on him, musically as well as politically back at Pueblo South High School which Dave! attended for his Freshman and Sophomore years. When Dave!'s folks were transferred to Utah following his 10th grade year, he never got the chance to say goodbye to Grish or even tell him that they were leaving. For the next thirty years there was always a wondering what had happened to each other.

Thanks to Facebook, Dave! was able to reconnect with a Band Friend who let him know that Grish had passed away some years before. In a Daily Dave! Morning Briefing Dave! spoke about Grish and the influence that he had on him.

The song, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was a popular and favorite number of the South High Pep Band, and prominently featured the French Horn Section, which at that time consisted of Grish and Dave! (for the Pep Band, anyway). It serves to remind Dave! each and every day of a friend who influenced him as well as a reminder to listeners that they should take the time each and every day to remind the people who matter in their lives that they are important and that they love them. You are not promised tomorrow and you do not want to miss that opportunities and have those regrets....
